ISLAMABAD: United States Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome on Tuesday participated in the inauguration of a Police Training College campus in Quetta, a four-year, $5.35 million partnership funded by the US Embassy’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Section.

Addressing a ceremony, the ambassador said that the seven new and four renovated buildings not only triple the Police Training College’s capacity, but also ensure new recruits and officers will receive the skills-based, high-quality training they need to deploy in some of Pakistan’s most challenging areas.

He said that with the completion of this new facility, the officers trained at PTC Quetta will be better prepared to address the tremendous risks and challenges they face every day in the line of duty.

In addition, we have scheduled delivery of 900,000 dollars’ worth of radio communication equipment and thirty-five mine detectors, and recently provided 700,000 dollars’ worth of vehicles and 195,000 dollars’ worth of blast suppression equipment, all of which will greatly enhance operations and security across the province, he said.

Ambassador Highlights Pakistan-US Cooperation

The envoy added that beyond this training center, the US has helped Pakistan secure its borders, combat terrorism, and fight narcotics trafficking.

Blome said that he wanted to recognize the special effort to recruit more female police, establish gender desks in police stations, and increase facilities to serve women and underserved communities.

The envoy said that the US was committed to working with Pakistan to address the economic, energy, and environmental challenges of our time.

He said that all the work the two countries were doing together – on trade, clean energy, investment, education, and climate change – was predicated on a solid foundation of security and the rule of law.
