US Doctors in Gaza to Give Medical Assistance

GAZA:  A team of U.S. orthopedic surgeons have reached Gaza Strip to perform a series of critical operations and train the local doctors, Western reported.

President of the U.S.-based non-profit Fajr Scientific, Khaled Saleh, said the visit would help the patients suffering from joint problems, chronic pain, and forced to use a cane to walk or on wheelchairs.

The five-day mission would perform surgeries on 150 patients and train local surgeons while donating vital equipment worth $4 million.

He said, hopefully, miseries of the joint patients would come to an end after surgeries and they would be able to live a normal life being active members of their families.

US doctors in Gaza to help out patients

The economy of the Gaza Strip has faced a major blow after economic sanctions and years of the blockade.

Fajr Scientific chief executive Mosab Nasser has said that Gaza health ministry has arranged the visit of the U.S. team with the purpose of helping to enhance the capability of local surgeons.

The team would also perform critical joint replacement operations with the assistance of local surgeons.

Halima Abu Hayya, 57, a patient, said she had waited three years to get a knee joint replacement as the treatment outside Gaza is too much expensive.

She was hopeful that after the surgery she will be able to walk without pain.
