WASHINGTON: The US has planned to provide additional military assistance worth $200 million to war-hit Ukraine, Western media reported on Wednesday.

According to the reports citing two officials the Pentagon will provide weapons and ammunition to the Ukrainian forces.

This latest aid will contain missiles for the High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the Patriot air defence system, munitions for howitzers and tanks, Javelin rockets, mine-clearing equipment, 12 million rounds of small arms ammunition and demolition munitions, an official told media on condition of anonymity as the aid has not yet been publicly announced.

The aid comes as the US financial assistance for Ukraine is nearly all consumed and the Biden administration is expected to request a new package of additional aid from Congress.

Ukraine has already received more than $43 billion from the US since the war with Russia started last year.

Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh during a press briefing stated the US is confident that it could continue with its supply to Ukraine without any hindrance.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Shoygu has accused the US of committing war crimes by supplying cluster bombs to Ukraine which is prohibited by international law.

Amid escalating tensions, Russia has conducted multiple waves of attacks on Ukraine while Ukrainian forces targeted bridges within their occupied territories in the preceding.

The situation remains highly critical in the area, with both sides engaged in military operations. The ongoing developments underscore the delicate balance of power and the complex geopolitical landscape in the region.
