TASHKENT: Uzbekistan and Pakistan have discussed plans to increase their mutual trade turnover to $1 billion in the coming years, local media reported. The discussion took place during a meeting between Uzbek Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and Pakistan’s Ambassador, Ahmad Farooq. They focused on current trade relations and potential new avenues for cooperation.

Both parties also explored the possibility of holding the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission between Uzbekistan and Pakistan by the end of 2024.

As part of this, they proposed to organize the Made in Uzbekistan exhibition. Additionally, plans are underway for the Made in Pakistan exhibition to be held in Tashkent in June of this year.

After the meeting, both sides agreed to review measures to enhance collaboration in investment and transportation. The volume of exports from Uzbekistan to Pakistan reached $66.3 million between January and March 2024, marking a 26.5% increase compared to the same period last year ($52.4 million in January–March 2023).
