DHAKA: Wanindu Hasaranga, the Sri Lankan all-rounder, has reversed his decision to retire from Test cricket ahead of the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh, set to commence on Friday.

Having initially retired in August to focus on his limited-overs career, the 26-year-old has been named in Sri Lanka’s 17-man squad announced on Monday. This decision marks one of two changes from the squad that faced Afghanistan in February, with Nishan Peiris earning his maiden Test call-up alongside Hasaranga.

Asitha Fernando and Milan Rathnayake have been replaced by Hasaranga and Peiris. Consequently, Hasaranga will miss the start of IPL, India with Sunrisers Hyderabad. The first Test is scheduled to begin on March 22 in Sylhet, followed by the second Test in Chittagong starting from March 30. Despite losing the Twenty20 series 2-1, Sri Lanka emerged victorious in the one-day series against Bangladesh, clinching it 2-1.

The Sri Lankan Test squad comprises Dhananjaya de Silva (capt), Kusal Mendis, Dimuth Karunaratne, Nishan Madushka, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Kamindu Mendis, Lahiru Udara,  Ramesh Mendis, Nishan Peiris, Kasun Rajitha, Vishwa Fernando, Wanindu Hasaranga, Prabath Jayasuriya, Lahiru Kumara, and Chamika Gunasekara.
