World Thinking Day 2024 Celebrated in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Girl Guides Association National Headquarters has Celebrated World Thinking Day at its NHQ, local media reported on Friday.

The press release said that more than 300 Guides (six to twenty-one years old) participated in the event. The theme of the Day was “Our World Our Thriving Future – The Environment & Global Poverty”.  During the event, girls provided with the opportunity to experience enjoyable activities and learn to protect the environment in a fun way. The programme was arranged in the form of activity stations, some indoors and some outdoors. Activities regarding environment protection, and games were part of the event.

A painting competition, in relevance to the upcoming World TB Day, was also arranged on the occasion in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Yes, we can end the TB” is the theme of World TB Day for this year. Sub-themes for the poster competition were“TB ki Alamat (symptoms), “Breaking the Chains of TB Stigma: Empowering Women” and bachaoo (TB prevention), aur elaaj (treatment)”.

National Coordinator, Common Management Unit for TB, HIV/AIDS, and Malaria Dr. Razia Kaniz Fatima was the Chief Guest at the event. National Commissioner of the Pakistan Girl Guides Association Maria Maud Sabri welcomed her and other guests.

She briefed them about the theme of the day and informed them about the Guides’ activities to protect the environment.  She informed that global warming and climate change were causing great damage and adversely affecting life but children and women were at greater risk in every disaster.

She also briefed about the Guides’ work regarding the Awareness and Prevention of TB and the badge curriculum prepared in collaboration with the WHO.

Youth’s Role in Elimination of TB in Pakistan

While addressing the Guides, Dr. Razia Kaniz Fatima appreciated the Guides’ work regarding the environment. She also underlined the role of youth in elimination of TB in the country. She said that Pakistan was the 5th country with the highest numbers of TB patients. Young people, especially Girl Guides can do a lot to improve the situation.
