BOGOTA: An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit the Colombian capital Bogota on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
As per reports the earthquake was followed by a 5.9-magnitude aftershock creating panic among the public.
Earthquake Jolts Colombian Capital
Despite its strong intensity the earthquake lasted for a long-time forcing people to come out of their homes.
Colombian authorities have said that entire municipality of Calvario, in Meta, area of Bogota has been evacuated. Windows of the buildings were damaged by the earthquake.

In nearby city of Villavicencio, a landslide has been reported due to the earthquake.
However, there have been no initial reports of casualties as a result of the earthquake. Colombia’s civil defense agency says series of aftershocks will continue in coming days.
