LONDON: Maker of Amy Winehouse’s biopic “Back to Black” Sam Taylor-Johnson has said the movie would bring the music of the late singer back to life and celebrate her again.

The feature film shows Winehouse’s rise to stardom and her relationships with her family and former husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

Six-time Grammy Award winner died from alcohol poisoning, nearly 13 years ago, aged 27.

She is considered one of the most talented singers of her era and her untimely death shook the entertainment industry across the world.

Taylor-Johnson said telling the story from Winehouse’s point of view was necessary. She added Amy just became a victim of her own tragedy.

British actress Marisa Abela who played the role of Winehouse said it was challenging and a dream come true.

Abela, 27, who performs the singer’s hit songs in the movie said she took daily singing lessons in preparation for the role.

Amy Winehouse Estate approved “Back to Black” and Taylor-Johnson also met with Winehouse’s parents.

Taylor-Johnson said she did not need anybody’s approval for making the movie adding that she made the exact film she wanted to make.

“I would hope that Amy would feel proud that her music has stood such a big test of time, and that we’re here to celebrate her again,” she added.

The Back to Black would be released on April 11.
