Aurangzeb Meets Donald Lu, US Officials

WASHINGTON DC: A high-level meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb and US State Department Assistant Secretary Donald Lu discussed country’s reform agenda at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, a press statement said on Thursday.

The meeting between the two sides was held on the sidelines of Aurangzeb’s trip to Washington about the conduct of talks with the International Monetary Fund for a new bailout package and attend World Bank meetings. They also discussed means to enhance ties between Islamabad and Washington.

The focal point of the meeting was enhancing economic collaborations, with a particular emphasis on alternative energy, agriculture, climate resilience, and the technology sector.

During the meeting, Pakistani Minister provided an overview of Pakistan’s reform agenda, which includes initiatives aimed at broadening the tax base, streamlining the energy sector, and expediting the privatization of state-owned enterprises.

He highlighted burgeoning opportunities for American investments in information technology (IT), renewable energy, agriculture, and mineral extraction. Moreover, the Minister also expressed Pakistan’s intention to collaborate closely with the US International Development Finance Corporation and Exim Bank.
