ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to reappoint Babar Azam as the skipper of the T20 over the recommendations of the newly-formed selection committee, media reports confirmed on Friday.

According to detail the batting maestro and former skipper Pakistan, Babar would replace Shaheen Afridi and would take charge as captain of the team for the upcoming five-match T20 series against New Zealand.

Earlier, six months before, the former chairman selection committee Zaka Ashraf appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as leader of the T20 format, after a dismal performance by the team under the leadership of Babar in the ICC World Cup 2023.

However, under the recent development, the newly appointed selection committee has decided to come up with replacement and has informed PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi that Babar Azam should be given captaincy of the T20 cricket.

Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi was thinking about stepping down as captain of the T20 side. However, further development from Shaheen has yet to be reported.

Babar was previously appointed as captain T20 format in 2019 followed by another responsibility as skipper of the Test format in 2020, however Pakistan didn’t manage to win any ICC or Asia Cup titles under his leadership.
