BERLIN, Germany: China must stop supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine if it wants to enjoy good ties with the West, the chief of the Western military alliance Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday, adding Beijing cannot have it both ways.

During a visit to Berlin, NATO Secretary-General said Beijing’s help was vital to Moscow’s war effort as it was propping up Russia’s war economy by sharing high-end technology like semiconductors.

He said in 2023, Russia imported 90% of its microelectronics from China, used to produce missiles, aircraft and tanks. China is also about to provide Russia with improved satellite capabilities and imaging, Stoltenberg added.

The NATO Secretary-General cautioned Western allies against depending on China as they had been on Russia adding in the past, they made the mistake of becoming dependent on Russian oil and gas.

He advised west not to repeat the mistake by depending on its money, its raw materials and its technologies.

China has strengthened military and trade ties with Russia in recent years as the US and its allies imposed sanctions on both, but particularly Moscow for the Ukraine war.
