Diriyah Initiative to Promote Heritage, Ancient Art in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: The Diriyah Gate Development Authority has concluded the 3rd Diriyah House of Ardah initiative as part of its huge efforts to promote further the ancient art, Arab media reported on Saturday. A ceremony was also held at At-Turaif World Heritage Site to honor the participants. Ardah was registered in the UNESCO List of World Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The dance features a tune that was once used to stir warriors facing enemies. Performers, dressed in local traditional costumes and dresses, dance with swords to the beat of drums. In collaboration with the National Center for Saudi Ardah, the initiative trains youth with the support of skilled performers in the art of Ardah to revive the cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Jerry Inzerillo, Group Chief Executive Office of the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, delivered a speech on the occasion. The CEO emphasized the resolve of the commission to preserve the cultural and historical identity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Jerry Inzerillo lauded the success of the art initiative and the performers who attended the current edition. Dr. Badran Al-Honaihen associated with Diriyah Gate Development Authority also discussed the history of the initiative. He said “Diriyah contains significant intangible heritage and the most important of all of its heritage is the Saudi Ardah.

Many families also attended the event and lauded the efforts to promote this unique art and termed the entire arrangement as a true reflection of art.
