TOKYO: Japan’s Ministry for Health said that COVID-19 vaccinations will no longer be free, but has not announced a bar on the vaccines, as claimed in several social media posts.

Many of the social media posts, which have been viewed over 2.5 million times on several social media platforms, link to an article on a conspiratorial website.

The website claims that the move came following an official government study tied the injections to the country’s increasing sudden deaths.

Reuters reported that health ministry in the country has not announced a ban on vaccines. However, the ministry said that the vaccine will no longer be free from next month. The health ministry said that based on safety reports about vaccine effectiveness, there are presently no serious concerns that will continue to affect the system of vaccination.

Reuters reported that there was no evidence that Japan was banning COVID vaccines. Japan’s government has said it continues to suggest people take the vaccine due to its benefits.
