Famous Calligrapher Yousuf Dehelvi Remembered

ISLAMABAD: The 47th death anniversary of the famous Pakistani Calligrapher Muhammad Yousuf Dehelvi is being observed today (on Monday).

Born in Delhi in 1894, Yousuf Dehelvi, renowned for his creation of the Dehlavi style, played a significant role in post-independence Pakistan. He engraved coins and currency notes for the nation and crafted the monogram of Radio Pakistan, adorned with a Quranic verse. Additionally, he received acclaim for his calligraphic work on the Ghilaf-e-Kaaba.

His calligraphy, notably the Quranic verse “Wa Qulu Lin-nasi husna” on the Radio Pakistan monogram, stands as a testament to his skill and artistry.

He met his demise in a road accident in Karachi on this day in 1977.   —APP
