HEERENVEEN: Germany secured their spot in the upcoming Paris Olympics following a commanding 2-0 triumph against the Netherlands in Heerenveen on Wednesday during the women’s Nations League third-place playoff.

Klara Buhl’s precision half-volley in the 66th minute, coupled with Lea Schueller’s authoritative header in the 78th, ensured Germany’s victory. The 2016 Olympic gold medalists, absent from Tokyo 2020, will make their return to Olympic competition.

Earlier in the day, Spain emerged victorious over France in the Nations League final with a 2-0 score line. Aitana Bonmati, the Ballon d’Or recipient, and Mariona Caldentey notched the goals for the world champions.

Following Japan and Australia’s clinching of Asia’s two Olympic berths on Wednesday, only the qualifications of the two African teams remain pending, completing the 12-team roster for the Olympic tournament.
