PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has undertaken a significant crackdown on ghee mills across various industrial areas in the province, leading to the closure of several mills due to the production of non-standard ghee and cooking oil.
According to the authority’s spokesperson, 26 ghee mills in Hattar Industrial Zone, Haripur, Dargai, Thana in Malakand, Bara in Khyber, and Mohmand Industrial Zones were inspected during the crackdown.
A total of 46 samples from different ghee and oil brands were tested in laboratories, revealing that 32 samples did not meet the required standards and were deemed unsatisfactory. Subsequently, 14 samples were declared meeting the food safety standards.
The spokesperson further mentioned that ghee mills with unsatisfactory samples were promptly sealed as a measure to ensure the quality and safety of food products.
Director of the Food Authority, Shafiullah Khan, emphasized that the goal is not to harm any business but to ensure that mills adhere to defined production standards.
He stated that the mills will remain closed until their production processes are improved to meet the specified standards, emphasizing the authority’s commitment to preventing the distribution of substandard ghee in the market, safeguarding the health of citizens. —APP
