GUJRANWALA: As Pakistan gears to vote this Thursday, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif vowed to eradicate poverty and unemployment in the country if his party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, voted to power in the general elections.
The three-time prime minister was addressing a public gathering in Gujranwala on Saturday. He said that if his government had not been ousted, there would not be a single unemployed person in the country.
Referring to Transparency International’s report, Nawaz Sharif highlighted improvements in Pakistan’s ranking on the corruption index during his government. He reiterated that under his leadership, not only corruption decreased, but the prices of essential commodities like bread, flour, and sugar were also at their lowest.
Nawaz Sharif pointed out that his government successfully addressed challenges such as load shedding and terrorism, maintaining the lowest prices of petrol and electricity. He also mentioned the IMF acknowledging the country’s development pace during his tenure.
Regarding a judge involved in his ouster, Sharif stated that the judge, who was in line to become the new Chief Justice, resigned and went home, alleging the judge’s role in his removal.
Had his government continued, Nawaz Sharif claimed, people would have been satisfied with improved living conditions. Addressing the youth, he assured them of his commitment to building motorways, universities, and hospitals and addressing unemployment and poverty if given the opportunity again.
A day earlier, in a rally in Faisalabad, Nawaz Sharif claimed that the real Pakistani youth support PML-N and not the so-called “mummy-daddy” types, expressing gratitude for the support from the people of Faisalabad.
