Pakistan, Portugal Pledge to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the multifaceted and friendly relationship between Pakistan and Portugal, noting shared interests and alignment on various regional and international issues.

During a meeting with the Portuguese Envoy to Pakistan, Manuel Frederico Pinheiro Da Silva, the speaker stressed the need to bolster political, cultural, economic, and people-to-people connections between the two nations, as per a news release.

The discussions covered a range of bilateral, regional, and global matters, with both parties expressing satisfaction with the current state of relations and a mutual commitment to further expanding and diversifying cooperation.

Parliamentary relations were highlighted, with the Speaker emphasizing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening ties, particularly through enhanced cooperation between parliamentary friendship groups and exchanges of delegations.

The Speaker extended an invitation to his Portuguese counterpart to visit Pakistan along with a parliamentary delegation. On trade and economic cooperation, he highlighted Pakistan’s proactive efforts to facilitate economic and trade activities, offering friendly countries significant investment opportunities and benefits.

Additionally, the Speaker underscored Pakistan’s rich tourism potential, particularly its ancient Buddhist heritage, as a potential avenue for closer ties between the two nations. The Ambassador expressed appreciation for the Speaker’s remarks and reaffirmed Portugal’s view of Pakistan as an important regional player. He expressed a desire to further enhance linkages in areas of mutual interest, alongside fostering parliamentary and cultural exchanges.
