ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reconstituted the Council of Common Interests (CCI) and excluded Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb as a member of the Council.

The reconstitution of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) marks a significant departure from tradition, as it no longer includes the Finance Minister but instead includes, for the first time, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar. This change in composition is unprecedented in the history of the CCI.

According to a notification issued after the approval of Shehbaz Sharif, the reconstituted CCI comprises eight members, including four Chief Ministers. Headed by PM Shehbaz as chairman, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has been included in the CCI instead of the finance minister. Other members of the CCI include Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Minister Safiran Ameer Muqam.

Previously, PM Shehbaz Sharif also restructured the federal cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), appointing Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb as its chairman. The ECC will be composed of the finance minister and four other ministers overseeing economic affairs, commerce, power, petroleum, planning, development, and special initiatives.
