Pakistan’s President, British High Commissioner Discuss Key Bilateral Issues

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari said on Thursday that friendly ties between Pakistan and the UK are based on a common history and heritage and have been strengthened over time through high-level and personal exchanges.

He emphasized that for the benefit of the two friendly nations, trade and economic relations must be further strengthened. 

The President expressed these views while talking to Jane Marriott, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr. During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest and bilateral relations. 

The President conveyed warm regards to King Charles III and Princess Catherine Middleton, expressing the Pakistani people’s deep respect for the King. He also discussed the country’s economic priorities, focusing on stabilizing the economy, creating jobs, and reducing poverty.

Addressing the pressing issue of climate change, President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability and the significant role of mangrove forests in Sindh, spanning 600,000 hectares, in supporting coastal ecosystems and environmental sustainability. 

He also mentioned Pakistan’s vast potential for solar and wind energy, crucial for meeting the nation’s energy needs.

Jane Marriott extended congratulations to President Asif Ali Zardari on assuming office as the President of Pakistan during their discussions on bilateral matters.
