RAWALPINDI: Former Punjab chief minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central President, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, was rushed to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (PIC) as his health deteriorated while in prison.

The PTI leader, currently facing legal challenges, complained of chest pain, prompting doctors at PIC to conduct immediate medical tests.

Pervaiz Elahi is one of several PTI leaders and supporters who have been apprehended in the aftermath of the violent unrest following the initial arrest of Imran Khan on May 9.

The crackdown on PTI leadership has led to multiple arrests, with Elahi detained several times since June 1, and his latest arrest on September 18 by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment .

The anti- corruption spokesperson revealed that Elahi faces allegations of making 12 illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly for grade 17 positions. The recruits were allegedly facilitated through the alteration of records, leading to legal complications for the prominent political figure.

As Elahi’s health condition remains a concern, the medical reports, including the results of the electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiogram, are eagerly awaited. This incident adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal battles faced by Pervaiz Elahi amid the broader political landscape in Pakistan.
