PM Shehbaz Directs to Constitute Committee on Carbon Credits

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to form a committee to finalize policy guidelines on carbon credits to address the issue of climate change.

He was chairing the third meeting of Pakistan Council on Climate Change in Islamabad on Friday, said a press release issued by the PM House’s media wing.

The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Climate Change to take the provinces and all stakeholders on board for this important policy draft and present it in the next meeting.

Praising the improvement in the measures regarding carbon credits across Pakistan, he underscored the need to expedite these efforts.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan is among the nations which are most vulnerable to the drastic impacts of climate change and the 2022 floods are testimony to it.

He added the challenge of climate change is getting serious with every passing day and the federal and provincial governments have to work together to formulate a policy on climate change.

The meeting in detail discussed the policy guidelines for trading in carbon credits.

The Chief Ministers of four provinces shared their opinions on the occasion and presented suggestions in this regard.
