PSL 9: Usman, Iftikhar Drive Multan Sultans to Huge Total of 214 Against Lahore Qalandars

LAHORE: A brilliant knock of 96 by Usman Khan drove Multan Sultans to a huge total of 214 against Lahore Qalandars in the 14th contest of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9th edition at Qadhafi Stadium Lahore on Tuesday. In the last session, Iftikhar Ahmad also added a firing 40 run inning to the total. As Multan Sultans is leading the table with four wins out of 5, the defending champion Lahore Qalandars is down the table with no single win while losing all the previous 5 games.

Earlier winning the toss, Lahore Qalandars invited Mulan Sultans to bat first. Famous for Qalandars skipper Shahee Afridi dismissing the captain of Multan and informed Muhammad Rizwan in the very first over for a duck. However, the number three batter, Reeza Hendricks, after joining the other opener, Usman Khan, managed to push the scoreboard ahead. Both managed to release the pressure put by Shaheen in the first over and consolidated the inning for the team.

Both added a crucial 70-run partnership for the team after Hendricks was dismissed by Sikandar Raza on 40. His forty runs innings included 6 boundaries and a six. He was replaced by Tayyab Tahir. 

On the other hand, Usman Khan also played well and completed his brilliant half-century on 31 balls, including 5 fours and a six. Both Usman and Tayyab pushed the innings ahead and added 77 77-run partnership for the team before Tayyab Thair was removed by Carlos Brathwaite on 21. At this stage, Multan Sultans were 151 for 3 in 15 overs. Tahir was replaced by Iftikhar Ahmad. However, Usman Khan remained sloid on the crease, added crucial runs, and was approaching his brilliant hundred. However, he was dismissed by Shaheen Afridi in the last over on 96. His innings included 11 fours and 2 sixes.

Meanwhile, Iftikhar Ahmad also contributed some fireworks while adding a quick 40-run innings on just 18 balls. Multan Sultans scored 214 for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.

From Lahore Qalandars, Shaheen Afridi grabbed two wickets, while Sikandar Raza and Carlos Brathwaite got one wicket each.
