ISLAMABAD: The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has filed another petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against the country’s electoral body’s decision of not allocating them reserved seats in the National and Provincial Assemblies.

The petition is scheduled to be heard by LHC Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh on March 11, with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and other relevant parties being made parties in the plea.

Previously, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, the head of the Sunni Ittihad Council, had approached the High Court demanding the allocation of reserved seats to their party. Notices have already been issued by the LHC for March 13 to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Attorney General, Advocate General of Punjab, and other involved stakeholders.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recently notified the allocation of reserved seats for women and minorities, which had been claimed by the PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), to other political parties. The decision came a day after the ECP rejected the Sunni Ittehad Council’s petition for the allocation of reserved seats, which was filed after a ‘merger’ with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for this specific purpose.

The ECP was urged to distribute the seats considering the inclusion of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-)-backed candidates in their party.
