ISLAMABAD: Islamabad United’s captain, Shadab Khan, has expressed optimism about his teammate Imad Wasim potentially reversing his retirement from international cricket, praising Wasim’s performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 playoffs.

Imad Wasim’s stellar performance, leading Islamabad United to consecutive victories in the playoffs, has caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts. His unbeaten 59 off 40 deliveries played a pivotal role in securing a five-wicket win over Peshawar Zalmi in the Eliminator 2 of PSL 9.

During a post-match press conference, Shadab Khan emphasized the significance of Imad Wasim’s presence in the national team, particularly ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States. Shadab Khan expressed his desire for Imad Wasim to reconsider his retirement decision, citing Pakistan’s need for players of his caliber.

“I had also told him that I didn’t want him to leave. Because Pakistan needs players like him,” remarked Shadab Khan, highlighting Imad Wasim’s valuable contributions to the team.

Imad Wasim Ready to Return to International Cricket

Looking ahead, Shadab Khan expressed hope for a discussion with Imad Wasim regarding his potential return, given his exceptional performance in PSL 9 and his experience in tournaments like the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Shadab Khan believes that Imad Wasim’s inclusion would significantly strengthen Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.

In response, Imad Wasim has indicated his willingness to consider a comeback to international cricket if deemed necessary for the country’s interests. While he retired abruptly last year, Imad Wasim remains open to the possibility of representing Pakistan again.

“I made a name for myself while playing for Pakistan and if my country needs me, I will be available. If not, I have no issues with that,” stated Imad Wasim in a recent interview with local media outlets.
