ISTANBUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erodgan said Wednesday he will host the Palestinian resistance group Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, in Turkey this weekend. “The leader of the Palestinian cause will be my guest this weekend,” Erdogan said during a parliamentary session, underscoring Turkey’s continued support for the Palestinian cause.

According to reports from private television channel NTV, Erdogan and Haniyeh are scheduled to meet on Saturday at the historic Dolmabahce palace in Istanbul. This meeting marks a significant diplomatic engagement between Turkey and the Palestinian leadership.

The upcoming visit holds particular significance as it will be the first encounter between Erdogan and Haniyeh since their last meeting in July 2023. During that meeting, Erdogan hosted Haniyeh alongside Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas at the presidential palace in Ankara.

Turkey has long been vocal in its support for the Palestinian cause and has consistently advocated for a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
