LONDON: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated on Sunday that British military jets had intercepted and shot down drones launched by Iran in its retaliatory attack on Israel. Meanwhile, Sunak called for maintaining calm to prevent further escalation of the conflict.

Confirming the interception, Sunak told broadcasters, “I can confirm that our planes did shoot down a number of Iranian attack drones. If this attack had succeeded, the implications for regional stability would have been significant. We stand firmly by the security of Israel and the broader region, recognizing its importance for our own security at home. What we need now is for rational thinking to prevail.”

Sunak was scheduled to participate in discussions with Group of Seven leaders later on Sunday. “It’s crucial that we coordinate with our allies, and we’ll be discussing the next steps during those discussions,” he added.
