US Military Reports ‘Damage’ to Vessel After Houthi Missile Stike in Red Sea

WASHINGTON:  US Central Command (CENTCOM) has said that Houthi fighters fired three anti-ship ballistic missiles at two ships in the Red Sea, one of which sustained minor damages but has continued on its journey. In a statement, CENTCOM, said there were no reports of casualties from attacks on the UK-owned ship. Houthi said that their attacks will end when Israel stops its war on Gaza.

Earlier, the UK’s Defence Ministry said that its forces shot down a missile fired by Houthis targeting a merchant ship in the Red Sea.  The ministry stated that the HMS Diamond warship used a Sea Viper missile system to shoot down the Houthi’s missile.

UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said that the UK continues to be at the forefront of the global response to the Iranian-backed Houthis’ dangerous strikes on commercial ships, which have claimed the lives of global mariners.

The Houthis started targeting Red Sea shipping in November in support of Palestinian people amid Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Israeli troops have killed around fifteen more people including women and children in fresh strikes on Rafah, Khan Younis, and Nuseirat refugee camp. According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, at least 8 people including women and children have been killed in two Israeli attacks in the Nuseirat camp in Gaza. It said that a baby girl was also among four people killed in Nuseirat camp.

The Wafa maintained that four people were killed and around 30 were wounded in an Israeli bombing of another house in the area. Arab media reported that four people, including two kids have been killed in an Israeli attack in Rafah.
