USA: Gaza Ceasefire Resolution Adopted in Illinois

CHICAGO: The board of trustees in Bolingbrook, a town in the suburbs of Chicago, on Wednesday adopted a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza strip.

Bolingbrook, has a population of 73,755 is the 16th-largest population center in Illinois. Its mayor is Egyptian American Mary Alexander-Basta, who has held the post since August 2020.

She said the resolution, unanimously approved, rejects all of kinds of violence in Gaza.

“As the Mayor of Bolingbrook, I wholeheartedly embrace the richness of our community’s diversity,” Alexander-Basta added. “It is our greatest strength, fostering innovation, understanding and unity among all residents.

She said it is important that humanitarian assistance reaches to those who are in need and that efforts to rebuild damaged infrastructure are prioritized to restore peace and stability in the area.

The mayor went on to say that their thoughts are with all those affected by the war in Gaza. She added that they are committed to supporting peace and justice in the region.

The resolution strongly condemns all kinds of violence and states that the mayor and board of trustees of Bolingbrook stand for peace.

It advocates a long-lasting, sustained humanitarian cessation of hostilities, the rebuilding of civilians’ lives, and economic development.

According to Gaza health officials at least 28,500 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7.
