WASHINGTON: The White House on Thursday labeled Russian leaders “manure salesmen” after they sought to link an attack on a concert hall near Moscow claimed by the Islamic State group to Ukraine.

The National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby, criticized Russia’s dissemination of what he called “nonsense propaganda.” “My uncle used to say… that the best manure salesmen often carry their samples in their mouths. Russian officials seem to be pretty good manure salesmen,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters, denouncing Russia’s “nonsense propaganda.”

Kirby’s remark came in response to Russia’s assertion that suspects involved in the Moscow concert hall attack, which resulted in the deaths of over 140 people, had alleged links with Ukrainian nationalists. Russia’s Investigative Committee, responsible for investigating the attack, claimed to have obtained evidence of these connections through examinations of seized technical devices and analysis of financial transactions.

The United States has consistently supported Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russian aggression.
