GENEVA: The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has again called for a humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, warning against an approaching famine, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

It further said that an Israeli ground offensive in southern Gaza would make the program’s goal of delivering food in the area more challenging.

Matthew Hollingworth, the WFP country director for Palestine said they require conditions that enable the program to deliver food in Gaza to prevent famine in the besieged enclave and avoid further deaths.

He said that program is striving hard to prevent malnutrition among children, and end the suffering of people who seek aid every day to survive.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification report the threshold for acute food insecurity is leading to famine in Gaza.

It also said that malnutrition among children of Gaza under the age of five is progressing at a record speed towards the second threshold of famine.
