Youth Engagement Crucial to Adress Environmental Challenges: Romina

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Romina Khurshid Alam on Thursday emphasized the need for engaging young graduates as interns, use of digital media, exchanges with nations having identical initiatives on environment and provision of equal access to information at all levels to address environmental degradation.

The Green Pakistan Program Office organized a special tree-planting ceremony in connection with World Earth Day.

Senior officers from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination were also present in the ceremony, a news release said.

During the event, Romina Khurshid Alam planted a symbolic tree, marking the Earth Day celebrations and highlighting the program’s commitment to land restoration and environmental conservation.

She commended the program’s efforts in reviving forestry and wildlife resources across the country.

Appreciating the project’s dedication and contribution to the overall biodiversity conservation, Romina stressed on showcasing such impactful work to garner engagement and donorship from national and global agencies.

She further underlined the need to strategize the program with a specific focus on Protected Areas and Wildlife conservation linking it to Climate economy through market-based livelihood creation for local communities.

Activities Addressing Environment

In response, the National Program Director spotlighted the program’s achievement, saying that it had been able to ensure a plantation of 2.2 billion, created approximately 1.2 million green jobs both for rural men and women and notified 103 Protected Areas in provinces and federal territories including six National Parks to be processed for Green Listing.

The revised phase of the program submitted to the Planning Commission has also a strong focus on the Carbon facilitation mechanism, scientific management of forest resources, national and international exchanges for cross-fertilization and increased knowledge management including media and awareness outreach.
