36 Killed in Rain-Related Incidents in Northwest Pakistan

PESHAWAR: The death toll has risen to 36, with 46 others injured in rain-flood-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, the Provincial Disasters Management Authority (PDMA) said on Friday.

Heavy rain has persisted since last night in most parts of the province, prompting a high alert issued to all district administrations. The PMDA report reveals that among the deceased, 20 children, 8 men, and 8 women lost their lives, while 9 women, 33 men, and 11 children sustained injuries due to accidents caused by heavy rains and floods in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A total of 2391 houses have been damaged in the recent wave of heavy rains, the PDMA stated.

Heavy rains led to life and financial losses in numerous districts including Khyber, Dir Upper and Lower, Chitral Upper, Swat, Bajaur, Shangla, Mansehra, Mohmand, Malakand, Karak, Tank, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Buner, Hangu, Battagram, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Orakzai.

PDMA, along with related organizations, is actively engaged in relief activities in rain-affected districts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The rains are expected to continue intermittently until April 21, and the PDMA has advised all district administrations to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures. The PDMA Emergency Operation Center is fully functional, and people are urged to report any incidents to 1700.
