WASHINGTON: A satirical article claiming that the Academy of Country Music (ACM) has suspended U.S. singer Taylor Swift’s membership. The satirical article is being shared on different platform of social media as authentic news.
A Facebook post says, “The Academy of Country Music has canceled Taylor Swift’s membership, saying, ‘She has not been country in years.’” A faint logo on the post also includes text that reads, “satire.”
However, many users appear to take this post very seriously with comments and remarks. Many people appreciated her voice and music.
Did ACM Cancel Taylor Swift’s Membership?
“The news story is not true and did indeed originate from a satire article,” Jesse Knutson, a representative for the academy said. Jesse Knutson added that Taylor Swift had earned a Lifetime Membership of the Academy, and they had never discussed revoking her membership. Representative for the singer did not immediately react over the news story.
However, social media posts saying that the ACM has canceled Taylor Swift’s membership stem from a satirical article. Therefore, the news is false and unauthentic.
