ISLAMABAD: Some Pakistani social media users claimed that a returning officer (RO) in a constituency in Pakpattan, Punjab has resigned after the February 8 general elections. They alleged that he was being forced to manipulate the poll results.

Bur the claim is false. No RO from Pakpattan has resigned, as of February 13. A social media user shared a post on X claiming that RO Pakpattan has resigned as claimed that he cannot do such a big injustice in the poll results.

Seven ROs in Pakpattan

However, the Election Commission of Pakistan had appointed 7 ROs on December 11, for the five provincial and two national assembly constituencies of Pakpattan district, and none of them have resigned to date.  Therefore, the post which got viral on social media is incorrect, containing a false claim.
