Famous Dress Belonging to Princess Diana Going Up for Sale

ISLAMABAD: One of Princess Diana’s most iconic gowns, a silk velvet piece that is aubergine in color is going up for sale. Britain’s late royal for an official portrait in 1991 and a Vanity Fair spread in 1997.

The dress is to be auctioned at a Sotheby’s sale in New York later in January and is expected to fetch as much as S120,000. Couturier Victor Edelstein designed the famous piece.

In 1997, the strapless gown that features a skirt that is tulip-shaped was sold for a bit over $24,000. The sale occurred along with 79 other dresses donated by Diana at a Christie’s charity auction.

Edelstein also designed Diana’s midnight blue “Travolta Dress”. This is the famous long velvet gown in which she famously danced with the actor while at the White House. In 2019, the dress was sold at a charity for $347,000. Earlier, it had failed to sell at an auction.

The current Edelstein gown will be one of the items at Sotheby’s auction on January 27. Other notable items include a ticket to former American President John F. Kennedy’s 1962 birthday which was attended by Marilyn Monroe.
