STOCKHOLM: Swedish audio streaming and media service provider Spotify on Thursday said that Apple has rejected its new version of its iOS with price information for European Union users.

The company in a post on X said it submitted a new version of its app to Apple with a basic website and pricing and information, which is a minimum requirement under the European Commission’s new rules.

Spotify said Apple rejected its latest update in a response sent to the company directly.

A spokesperson for Spotify said in a statement that Apple has once again defied the European Commission’s decision, by rejecting its update for trying to connect with customers about the prices unless it pays a new tax to Apple.

Brussels in March, imposed a $1.97 billion fine on Apple for thwarting competition from music streaming rivals through restrictions on its App Store.

Apple earlier this month, also announced steps that would let music streaming apps on its App Store in the European Union area to inform users about ways to purchase digital services.

Under Apple’s proposal, Spotify and other streaming services can add links to their websites to inform users about payment options. However, Spotify said Apple did not include the in-app link in the new version submitted to it.
