NOVATEK, Russia: An emergency unfolded in the Russian Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga as a fire broke out at Novatek’s natural gas terminal, prompting evacuations and a high alert in the surrounding area. Authorities are actively addressing the situation at the crucial terminal, a key component of Russia’s natural gas infrastructure.
The fire occurred at Novatek’s natural gas terminal in Ust-Luga, situated 110 kilometers west of St Petersburg near the Estonian border. Novatek, Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer, operates the terminal.
Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko confirmed the evacuation of personnel from the terminal and emphasized that there were no reported casualties. A state of high alert has been declared in the Kingiseppsky district, encompassing the Ust-Luga port.
