Moderate Earthquake Jolts Parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale jolted Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces and the Gilgit-Baltistan region on Thursday.

Tremors were felt in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Swat, Bajaur, Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Mardan, Kohat, Lower Dir, Chitral, and Girdo districts.

The earthquake’s epicenter was in the Afghan-Tajikistan border areas, with a depth of 86 kilometers, causing people to evacuate their homes out of fear for their safety.

Earlier, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake rattled Balochistan’s Zhob district and neighboring areas. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, it occurred at a depth of 15 kilometers, with its epicenter located 123 kilometers northwards. However, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage from any part of Zhob. — APP
