SAN FRANCISCO: Elon Musk’s X has appealed the dismissal of its case against the nonprofit Center for Countering Digital Hate, which blamed him for letting hate speech spread on X formally known as Twitter. X filed has a notice of appeal to Court of Appeals, local media reported on Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer in San Francisco has rejected X’s case on March 25, describing it “evident” that the social media platform sued the center to silence critics and penalize them for their speech.

Though Elon Musk has long presented himself as a free-speech champion, X said the center’s research was scaring advertisers away, costing it tens of millions of dollars in revenue generation.

Elon Musk bought Twitter for around $44 billion in 2022. Musk is the world’s third-richest man Forbes magazine reported, and runs the electric vehicle maker Tesla.
