ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited to the Naval Headquarters in Islamabad on Thursday, where he commended the Pakistan Navy for its dedicated service in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests despite resource constraints.
Accompanied by federal ministers, the prime minister particularly praised the swift and professional response of the Pakistan Navy in thwarting a recent terrorist attack on Naval Airbase Turbat.
Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was warmly welcomed by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and received a Guard of Honour from a sharply dressed naval contingent. He also paid tribute to the fallen heroes at the Shuhada monument and met with the Principal Staff Officers of Naval Headquarters.
Discussions during the meeting revolved around the Regional Maritime Security landscape and the operational preparedness of the Pakistan Navy. The Naval Chief briefed the prime minister on the roles, capabilities, and future modernization plans of the Navy.
Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) presented a detailed briefing on the current maritime environment, challenges faced by the Pakistan Navy, and its strategies to overcome these challenges. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was briefed on the Navy’s capability requirements to address present and future maritime challenges and to capitalize on economic opportunities in the maritime sector.
Emphasizing the importance of a strong economy in addressing national challenges, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the significance of leveraging economic prospects in the maritime domain. He also visited the Command Operations Centre of the Pakistan Navy during his visit.
The Naval Chief thanked the prime minister for his visit and confidence in the Navy, assuring that the Pakistan Navy would continue to defend the country’s sea frontiers and maritime interests with honor and dedication, both in times of peace and conflict, with the help of Allah.
