Shawwal Moon Sighted, Eid ul Fitr to Be Celebrated in Pakistan Tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to celebrate Eid ul Fitr tomorrow (Wednesday) as the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal moon in the country. The announcement was made by Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad after presiding over a meeting of the committee in Islamabad.

While addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, the committee chief, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad said the decision to celebrate Eid ul Fitr on Wednesday was based on testimonies received from various parts of the country.

The central moon sighting committee received over 20 moon sighting testimonies from different parts of the country. Officials from the meteorology department, Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), and the Ministry of Science and Technology also attended the central moon sighting committee meeting.

Meanwhile, Eid ul Fitr will also be celebrated on Wednesday in Saudi Arabia, Australia, UK, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, Muslims in India and Bangladesh will observe Eid ul Fitr on Thursday (April 11) as the Shawwal moon was not sighted in these countries.

In India, the Imams of Delhi’s Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri mosque confirmed that Eid will be celebrated on Thursday, while the National Moon Sighting Committee of Bangladesh announced Thursday as the day of Eid celebrations in the country.
