CAIRO: Sudanese actors and director were in Egypt this week hoping to utilize the power of cinema and film to shine a light on the war devastating their nation and on world indifference, local media reported on Saturday.

War broke out in mid-April last year between Sudan’s military, led by the country’s Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) headed by his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed in the war in the African country. The war has also forced millions more to flee their houses, triggering severe food shortages and a dire humanitarian crisis in the country. This desperation was highlighted at the Aswan International Women Film Festival via 5 Sudanese short films.

Sudanese actress and human rights activist Eiman Yousif said that they must speak regarding themselves and their silent problems, even through a simple artistic production.
