CHITTAGONG: Bangladesh clinched a thrilling four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the third One Day International (ODI) on Monday, securing a 2-1 series triumph, thanks to stellar performances from Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Rishad Hossain.

Substitute Tanzid Hasan Tamim set the tone with an aggressive knock of 84 runs off 81 balls, laying the foundation for Bangladesh’s successful chase of Sri Lanka’s target of 235 runs. Rishad Hossain then played a blistering innings, remaining unbeaten on 48 off just 18 balls to guide Bangladesh to victory with 9.4 overs to spare.

Sri Lanka, batting first, posted a competitive total of 235 all out in 50 overs, anchored by Janith Liyanage’s maiden century of 101 not out. However, their efforts were not enough to thwart Bangladesh’s determined pursuit.

Despite facing a late scare when Mehdiy Hasan Miraz fell with Bangladesh still needing 58 runs for victory, Rishad’s explosive batting ensured a thrilling finish as Bangladesh sealed the series triumph.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto praised Tanzid’s crucial innings at the start and commended the team’s resilience in overcoming challenges posed by Sri Lanka’s bowling attack, led by Lahiru Kumara’s impressive spell of 4-48.

Earlier in the match, Taskin Ahmed’s three-wicket haul and contributions from Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz helped restrict Sri Lanka’s batting lineup, with skipper Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka making notable contributions before Liyanage’s heroic century.

With this victory, Bangladesh avenged their defeat in the second ODI and emerged victorious in the closely contested series against Sri Lanka.
