BISHKEK: Turkiye has said that they are ready to assist Kyrgyzstan in establishing “Liver Transplantation Centre”, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to local media, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov received a delegation from İnönü University (Malatya, Turkiye) headed by the rector, Professor, Academician Ahmet Kızılay.

They discussed the potential advancement of human organ transplantation services, the integration of advanced medical technologies, and the implementation of measures aimed at reducing mortality rates in Kyrgyzstan.

President Japarov said that Kyrgyzstan’s citizens currently need to seek organ transplantation services abroad. However, he highlighted the country’s healthcare system’s abundance of highly skilled professionals dedicated to keeping pace with global advancements in transplantology.

The President said that 50 citizens undergo kidney transplantation this year at the state’s expense, with $7,000 allocated for each surgery. The subsequent focus will shift to facilitate liver transplantation for eligible patients. To achieve this objective, an analysis of Kyrgyzstan’s organ transplantation challenges will be conducted, alongside a study of foreign countries’ experiences in establishing transplantology centres.

The President expressed confidence in the integration of scientific, methodological, legal, and organizational approaches to organ transplantation in Kyrgyzstan’s medical practices. This integration aims to establish a centralized liver transplantation coordination centre, thereby fostering the development of transplantology services and subsequently reducing mortality rates in Kyrgyzstan.

Ahmet Kızılay, speaking on behalf of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressed that the İnönü University delegation arrived in Kyrgyzstan to share best practices in organ transplantation development. He highlighted the success of the medical centre named after former Turkish President Turgut Ozal at İnönü University, having performed over 3,700 successful operations in 22 years.

Kızılay also mentioned that 65 Kyrgyz medical specialists in liver transplantation have been effectively trained at the medical centre and are now actively contributing to the country’s healthcare system. Additionally, 33 Kyrgyz specialists are currently undergoing further training at the centre.
