ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) former chairman Ramiz Raja said on Tuesday that it was unfair to oust Shaheen Shah Afridi from the captaincy within one day.

Expressing his thoughts, Raja said that what had happened to Shaheen Shah Afridi also happened to him. It would have been to take Shaheen in confidence ahead of making the decision about the captaincy.

Removal from the captaincy in such a way can make a player feed up as his focus from cricket also distracts, the renowned commentator said. Rallying behind the speed star, Ramiz Raja said that Shaheen Shah Afridi is a matchwinner.

Speaking about the Pakistan squad, he said that the experiments cannot be made as the ICC World T20 Cup is around the corner. He expressed his wish to see white-ball captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan as the openers.

Ramiz Raja Acknowledges Babar Azam’s Leadership

The former captain acknowledged the leadership of Babar Azam, saying, that Babar has now emerged as the much better skipper. He knows the art of keeping the team united. He is smart enough to be the leader.

Raja emphasized the need to play at least two matches in the US ahead of the World Cup. He was of the view that it would be better to go with three pacers in the World Cup.
