BEIJING: The San Diego Zoo in the United States and the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA) recently inked a giant panda conservation deal, with a pair of giant pandas selected for a 10-year global conservation cooperation project, Chinese media reported on Saturday.
To protect the well-being of pandas in the United States experts from CWCA visited the Zoo in March for in-depth talks and technical exchanges on panda care, health requirements and living conditions.
The National Forestry and Grassland Administration said that the Chinese side has chosen giant pandas “Xinbao” (female) and “Yunchuan” (male) from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, as well as experienced keepers to accompany the two pandas to the United States.
San Diego Zoo is now remodeling and also improving its panda facilities to create a larger and more comfortable living habitat, local media reported. The zoo has also recruited skilled staff with experience in panda care, and associated scientific research taken through study and exchange programs in China.
