NEW YORK: The messaging app WhatsApp, owned by social media giant Meta, is working on a cool new feature designed to facilitate seamless sharing of files even when you are not connected to the internet.

Leaked reports suggest that WhatsApp is in the works to introduce a new feature allowing users to share a variety of files, including photos, videos, music, and documents, without the need for an internet connection.

This innovative feature aims to streamline file sharing by eliminating the reliance on Wi-Fi or mobile data. Moreover, to address concerns regarding security, WhatsApp ensures that all files shared through this method will be encrypted, guaranteeing their safety from any unauthorized access.

Screenshots from the latest test version of WhatsApp for Android provide insights into the permissions required for this feature. Notably, the feature will enable WhatsApp to detect nearby devices equipped with the same offline file-sharing capability, enhancing its functionality.

To enable this functionality on Android devices, WhatsApp will require permission to utilize Bluetooth for device discovery. However, users will retain control over their privacy, with the option to disable this feature if desired.

This announcement follows WhatsApp’s recent addition of a feature allowing users to pin notes for easy access, further solidifying its commitment to enhancing user experience and functionality.
