Fact Check: Clinton Foundation Purchases Saint James Island

WASHINGTON: A satirical post on social media saying that the Clinton Foundation bought Little Saint James Island to house kids become homeless during the current crisis in Haiti is being taken seriously, local media reported.

Haiti has declared a state of emergency amid escalating violence which has caused a humanitarian crisis and also displaced hundreds of thousands of people including children.

A social media post shares a screenshot says, “JUST IN: Clinton Foundation buys Little Saint James Island to house children displaced by Haiti’s violence.” The post accompanying the screenshot adds, in part, “Wow…. This is so scary and so wrong”

Fact Check: Clinton Foundation Purchases Saint James Island

The social media post was published on March 13, by satirical social media account “U.S. Ministry of Truth.”

The Caribbean Little Saint James Island owned by late American financier Jeffrey Epstein. Reuters reported that there are no credible news reports that the Clinton Foundation has bought the island and no announcement of such a deal on the foundation’s website. Angel Urena, spokesperson for former U.S. President Bill Clinton also rejected the social media reported and termed it baseless.

Reuters reported that the social media post saying that the Clinton Foundation bought island to house Haitian kids displaced during the crisis originated as satire.
