HEC Develops Pakistan Studies Course for Undergraduate Programs

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has designed a course on Pakistan Studies, stressing its incorporation in the education component of Undergraduate Education Policy V. 1.1.         

In this regard, the HEC Course Design Committee held a meeting at the HEC Regional Centre, Karachi on Tuesday to formulate a 2-credit course titled, ‘Pakistan Studies’ for undergraduate programs.

Muhammad Ali Baig, Deputy Director HEC, opened the session by elaborating on the rationale and parameters guiding the process of consultation.

He stressed the need for a meticulously crafted course on Pakistan Studies that offers students a comprehensive exploration of the identity of Pakistan, encompassing its historical, geographical, and cultural dimensions.

The committee comprised noted experts in the field, Prof. Dr. Abdul Qadir Mushtaq, including the Chairperson Department of Pakistan Studies, Government College University Faisalabad, Prof. Dr. Javed Akhtar Salyana, Chairman of Department of Pakistan Studies, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Dr. Mahboob Hussain, Chairman Department of History & Pakistan Studies, University of Punjab, Lahore and many others.

The committee developed the course and highlighted the significance of its incorporation into the general education component of the Undergraduate Education Policy V 1.1.

However, it said that the course should not serve as a substitute for the existing “Ideology and Constitution of Pakistan” course as outlined in the same policy.
